Odisha Woman Fide Master (WFM) Saina Salonika won the silver medal in girls category of the 30th National Under-17 Chess Championship, which was held at Oberon Mall in Ernakulam, Kerala from 29 June to 7 July, 2019. Samriddhaa Ghosh (WB) and B Kalyani (AP) pocketed the gold and bronze respectively.
In the 11-round tournament, top seed Bhubaneswar girl Saina finished second with eight points. Remaining unbeaten in the championship, she won five games and drew the remaining six.
Saina registered her five wins against P Adra (Kerala), Swara Lakshmi S Nair (Karnataka), B Kiruthika, WCM L Jyothsna (both Tamil Nadu) and Diya Chowdhury (WB). She drew her six games gainst Vrushti Shah (Gujarat), Garima Gaurav (Bihar), B Kalyani (AP), Samriddhaa Ghosh (WB), Shanya Mishra and Palkin Kaur (both Delhi).
